Improved reading may help students attain skills that can aid them throughout life. School children may blossom at the one-on-one attention of their tutor and students and tutors alike may develop a close bond.
Helping Hands Tutoring is an outreach program of the Sierra Vista UMC with Huachuca Elementary School. The goal is to provide free one-on-one tutoring to students in grades 1-3 who need help primarily in reading.
Volunteer tutors meet throughout the school year on a selected afternoon once a week for approximately two hours, each working with an individually chosen student.
