This page will be a space for us to explore STEWARDSHIP. This will be a space to learn about our efforts to care for our ministry. Starting on September 28th, we are starting a Stewardship Series that will celebrate the ways we do this as a community already and how we want to build our efforts in the future. This will be the page to check out for updates, stories, and other information!

Why are we having a Stewardship Series this year?
Why “Be the Light?
In Matthew 5:14-18, each of us are challenged to be the light to the world and to let our light shine. In this, our intention with our Stewardship Series is to illuminate the ways we do this through our efforts to care for the ministry of God’s church here. The following folktale illustrates the concepts and themes which we will explore in our "Be The Light" series-
A long time ago two brothers shared a field and a mill. Each night they evenly divided the grain they had ground together during the day. One of the brothers had a wife and a large family; the other lived alone.
One day the single brother thought to himself: "It isn't really fair that we divide the grain evenly. I have only myself to care for, but my brother has children to feed."
So, each night he secretly took some of his grain to his brother's granary to see that he was never without. But, the married brother said to himself one day: "It isn't really fair that we divide the grain evenly because I have children to provide for me in my old age, but my brother has no one. What will he do when he is old?"
So, every night he secretly took some of his grain to his brother's granary. Thus, both of them always found their supply of grain mysteriously replenished each morning. Then, one night the brothers met each other halfway between their two houses, suddenly realized what had been happening and embraced each other in love.
God witnessed their meeting and proclaimed, "This is a holy place - a place of love - and here it is that my temple shall be built."
And, so it was. The holy place, where God is made known, is the place where human beings discover each other in love.
SVUMC's mission statement is to spread the love of Jesus which entails making God known and allowing human beings to discover each other in love. Over the course of this series, we will share stories and offer moments of celebration for the ways we have and are called to continue to create a “holy place – a place of love” through SVUMC.
